I SPY: Barbie World

Jun 8, 2016

If you got to play Barbie for the day what would you wear?  Couture all the way!  The total opposite of my everyday H&M, Zara & Urban Outfitters.  I admit I do love that urban grub.  But I do know how to clean up nice, and on occasion can make the effort to play Barbie.  So back to where I was going…if I was a Barbie girl, living in a Barbie world this is what I would be wearing!

Junya Watanabe

Cape: Machine - sewn gray wool & polyurethane jersey

Yves Saint Laurent

Sardine Dress: 1500 hours to complete the opalescent gelatin paillettes to create the iridescent skin of a fish

Paco Rabanne

Coat: Black wool knit with overlay of hand cut black leather & black astrakhan hand joined by silver metal rings

Gareth Pugh

Dress: Black silk wool gazar, hand embroidered with black plastic drinking straws
Valentino

Dress: Black lace & silk tulle, hand sewn and hand riveted with strips of fringed black leather

House Of Dior

Ensemble: Hand pleated machine sewn white silk organdy, hand embroidered with piece dyed polychrome silk grosgrain ribbon; machine sewn black wool silk crepe; hand finished

Madame Gres
Evening Dress: White silk organza, hand stitched and hand applied pleats of white silk jersey
Fabulous?  Yes!  These pieces from the Manus X Machina exhibit currently at The Met museum had me saying…I want!  I am cheap when it comes to shopping, but this is the couture I would wear and pay top dollar for.  This ain't available at no H&M and never will be!  For that workmanship, quality and detail you got to go the highbrow route.  No if's, and's or but's about it.

Madame Gres & Iris van Herpen

The rest of the exhibit was equally as gorgeous, even though not anything I feel I could personally pull off without looking like I'm at my Quinceanara or off to space!  Unfortunately Cinderella has no where to wear a ball gown in this current life.  But if I did...look at these over the top gems.

Chanel

Wedding Ensemble: Covered entirely in camellias

Iris van Herpen - laser cut silicone chevrons that have been baked in an oven
House Of Dior

Threeasfour & Proenza Schouler

House Of Dior
Incredible talent and construction shown in all these designs.  If your in New York, or visiting this summer, this is worth an hour of your time to cool off!  It's on at The Met till August 14, 2016.  If you love fashion, this one is for you.

PS. Museum Mile Festival in NYC is June 14, 2016.  All museums that evening are free entry.  Take advantage of it.  ENJOY.
