I SPY: Yes To The Dress

May 11, 2016

Big news...My India date said yes to the ring, but did she say yes to the dress?  Not yet!  Hold up...Not that easy!  My gosh, I forgot how much work it takes to dress shop, and I wasn't even the bride trying on the gowns!  HA.  There's just so much to see and think about it, which becomes mentally overwhelming.  After all it is one of the biggest decisions of planning a wedding, is it not?  MAJOR.

Luckily, my bride is pretty decisive and knows what she likes.  We had five bridal appointments in two days, and she tried on over 30 gowns!  If your going to do it right then you've got to try on as many different silhouettes, in all the different fabrications, beading styles, and the fifty shades of white to figure out what suits your body type, skin color, and your style.  Every one is different, so it is a very personal thing, and at the end of the day you want to be comfortable and feel your best, before you can narrow in.

Monique Lhuillier's bridal line has won majority of my brides votes.  We went back twice which is a mega indication!  The lines are flattering, youthful and I personally love how the designer uses different color linings in nude, blush pinks, and blue greys.  It's extremely subtle, but it adds dimension, and supposedly when photographed it still shows as white.

Vera Wang also had many iconic, classics that were beautiful.  However my bride complained of the gowns being heavy, and uncomfortable.  Granted these were all sample sizes so didn't fit properly.  But still you should go with your first instincts.  If the fabrics are heavy, then they remain heavy if you know what I mean!

Reem Acra is another winner.  Looking at editorial I've always felt this designer did more ornate and theatrical designs.  But I was pleasantly surprised when we visited her showroom.  The beading was exquisite, and her gowns have a unique vintage feel.

Mark Ingram is a salon that carries various bridal designers.  Oscar De La Renta was my reason for booking my bride this appointment, since Oscar doesn't carry his bridal line in his own boutique.  However, my brides eyes kept getting drawn to Monique Lhuillier designs when there!

It will be interesting to see what my bride decides on.  My guess is that it will be a bustier style, A-line skirt, some lace and beading.  She is more of a traditional girl, so for sure won't be going ultra modern and risqué.  Either way I trust what ever she decides on will be fabulous, and she is going to make a gorgeous bride.  I'm so excited for her, and the wedding of the year…in Lake Como, Italy!  Watch out for it in 2017!!
