I SPY: Brooklyn Museum

Sep 4, 2015

Are you off to somewhere fabulous this weekend?  For many of us in the USA this is our last long weekend of the summer.  Labor Day…the sign that summer is officially over.  SAD.  Very sad!  We aren't going away, and instead will have a stay cation in our backyard. Meaning the greater NYC!

The great thing about living in New York is there are endless things to do, and never a dull moment.  Last weekend I visited the Brooklyn Museum.  Have you been lately?  If not I highly recommend you go, for two temporary exhibits that are getting pulled down on October 4.

Firstly, The Rise of Sneaker Culture exhibit which has been much talked about and should be seen.  Sneakers are a playing a huge role in our fashion culture of late, so it's cool to see.  This exhibit displays over 150 pairs of sneakers, and follows the evolution of the sneaker.  Interesting how the sneaker has transformed in design over the years.  Go, and I bet you will find a few pairs you've had in the past.  I spotted at least 4 sneakers I've worn in my lifetime!

Secondly you MUST check out the FAILE: Savage/ Sacred Young Minds exhibit.  I absolutely loved it and had so much fun in there!  I think because I haven't heard much about it in the media, I wasn't expecting much, so was caught off guard when I entered and was totally tripping!  From the neon art, black light, foosball tables to the black and white room, with old school pin ball machines and video games…it totally felt like I was back in the 80's!  Bonus was you can play on all the games too.  I was definitely a big kid in there.  HA.  By far the coolest arcade I've ever been in.

Remember both exhibits end on October 4, 2015.  You've got a month to get over there!  So if you don't have plans for this weekend and are in the NY area, head over to Brooklyn.  It's totally worth the trek.
