I SPY: #MBFWNY Spring 2015

Sep 8, 2014

Happy Monday!  Or not?  I had a busy weekend attending Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York #MBFWNY.  I need another weekend to recover from all the HYPE!  Even though I did not work back stage for Fashion Week and was just an attendee at the shows and parties it still takes work.  From getting dressed (It's such a scene and you don't want to be caught dead by the Fashion Police paparazzi randomly taking pics of you and posting it on their blog…*ahem* like me!); to dealing with our stressful NYC traffic to get to the event on time, to standing in long lines and waiting for shows that never start on time (Patience is not my best virtue!), and to schmoozing and rubbing shoulders with other Fashionistas - it's FUN but hectic.

I previewed the Spring 2015 collections of the following designers:  Derek Lam, Marissa Webb, Monique Lhuillier, Rebecca Minkoff, and Rubin Singer.

Across the board I noticed the color trends were soft hues of cool pastels (pistachio, sky blue, sherbet orange, glacier gray, blush and sorbet pink).  I'm totally digging PISTACHIO!  The fabrics were sheer, flowy and iridescent liquid metallics with a hint of a futuristic appeal.  Floral organic prints and geometrics are big again, but also watercolor prints.  The trending style lines that caught my eye were drop waist dresses, high waisted flared pants, unconstructed tops, and mens wear inspired button down shirts.

Here's a peek into Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week  from my amateur iPhone snaps to give you a tasting sampler!

The main event sponsored by Mercedes Benz is held bi-yearly at Lincoln Center.  However, there are also many Fashion shows that take place down town in showrooms, or cool spots like Milk Studios.  Here is the beautiful venue at Lincoln Center and first impression when you start walking up the stairs towards the square and  past the water fountain, to find on your far left side the building where the lights, camera and Fashion show action takes place.

Once inside and past security you will enter the common area, where you will find mannequin displays, VIP lounges, sponsor booths such as this years Samsung Galaxy lounge, a Merecedes Benz pimped car, a Bar and a Cafe, amongst the crowd of Editors, Fashionistas, Paparazzi and Queens.  This year I noticed a sudden surge of many cross dressing Queens wearing fierce high heels!  Unfortunately no good pics of that, but we had a few good giggles!

To see runway looks please visit The Fashion Spot.  The Paparazzi in the photography pit have prime view, so I'm not going to try to challenge them with my pics that don't do justice. Such as this awful light flooded pic of mine - I tried!

More then the runway shows, and Hollywood star spotting I love hanging around the venue and checking out the STREET FASHION.  It's fun to people watch and interesting to see how every one has a different style, individuality and personality. Check out StyleCaster site for more fabulous street Fashion coverage.

How do you like that last pic?  I think next year my Bestie and I (we go way back to our F.I.T days) should wear coordinating outfits!  What do you think?  HA!
